#CubaNow Wishes You A Happy Thanksgiving Holiday
#CubaNow Press Release
Nov 26, 2015
MIAMI - #CubaNow Executive Director Ric Herrero issued the following statement today on this year’s Thanksgiving holiday:
"As we bow our heads to give thanks at the end of what has been a difficult and trying year for many around the world, we express our gratitude for the progress made between the United States and Cuba since the last Thanksgiving. Today, Alan Gross is giving thanks with his loved ones at home, our two countries have embassies and normalized diplomatic relations after decades of a confrontational policy that benefited few, and engagement between everyday Americans and our Cuban neighbors is at its highest point in over half a century.
“As we have often noted, this year only marks a new beginning – an opportunity to actively forge a path toward a better and brighter future between our nations and for the Cuban people – and our most challenging work remains ahead. Our thoughts are with the thousands of Cuban migrants separated from their families as they risk their lives in search of opportunities they still can’t find at home, with those on the Island still subjected to arbitrary and unnecessary detention, and with all on both sides of the Florida Straits who eagerly await the day when the walls left between our two countries are finally and fully torn down. We hope that the year to come brings everyone at least as much to celebrate as the last. On behalf of our members and our team, I wish you all a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.”
