There is a lot of coverage on Cuba NOT related to ZunZuneo that’s worth highlighting this week. In fact if there was one really important takeaway from this week’s news it’s that the Cuban people are the best drivers of change on the island. If we cut through the clutter, there has been great coverage of the broader changes taking place and of how Cuban entrepreneurs are in need of direct support to create greater social and economic space for themselves.

There continues to be extensive coverage of the very real changes that are taking place in the United States and within Cuba. There has been a palpable increase in activity and momentum among Cuban-Americans looking to move past the failed policies of the last 50 years. As other international actors are moving forward to engage with Cuba, it's clear that the United States simply can’t afford to keep looking the other way.

Momentum has been building in recent weeks for an alternative to the failed U.S.-Cuba policies of the last five decades. More and more Americans – including Cuban Americans – are realizing that the current approach simply hasn’t helped the Cuban people move closer toward freedom. As WLRN-Miami Herald News' Americas correspondent Tim Padgett put it, “Americans, Floridians and Cuban-Americans are coming to more thoughtful conclusions about the best ways to bring change to a time-warped neighbor.”
